The torn UCL was discovered today after undergoing an MRI examination for forearm tightness, especially after his last start against the Detroit Tigers where he allowed a career-high 13 hits. Although reports have noted that this type of injury could require Tommy John surgery, the Mets ace tells reporters that he is going to do all he possibly can to avoid surgery.
Matt Harvey started in 26 games this season, earning decisions in 14 of his starts. Carrying a 9-5 record, Harvey logged 178 innings where he gave up 45 earned runs to give him a 2.27 Earned Run Average. His strikeout-walk ratio is 6:1 for the year, with over 190 strikeouts to counter his 31 walks allowed.
