What the BEDS does is count students in Grades 9 through 11 at the many high schools across New York State. This number is to help determine funding and helps schools set budgets for the coming school year.
In the sports world, this number is used to place teams in classifications, so that similar schools play each other.
Schools that are private institutions have their enrollment doubled, as not to give them an unfair advantage over schools with similar enrollment numbers because of their power to recruit pupils.
Underneath the jump are the BEDS for 2014, and what that means for football in the coming school year.
Will Springstead of the Glens Falls Post-Star wrote best when he noted that the Lake George vs. Argyle game lived up to its billing.
We'd have to agree.
The Adirondack League match between these two rivals wasn't filled with chippy hard fouls. It was filled with what you'd want to see in a basketball game - a swaying ship filled with emotion, drama and tension as you didn't know who was going to come out in front at the very end.
Lake George started out in front, but then the Argyle Scots were able to bounce back. After going to the halftime break up 6, the Scots continued to build on that lead, getting up to a 11 point gap before the Warriors started their comeback.
Joel Wincowski was a key contributor in the Lake George comeback, scoring a majority of his 48 total points in the 4th Quarter and Overtime combined. And rather than try to paint a picture via words about how the final minute played out, let's show you how it was.
The final minutes of regulation was as exciting as the commentary and the crowd made it out to be.
The hero who forced overtime, Brock Liddle, was fouled out three seconds into overtime after Joel Wincowski drove the lane and took contact by Liddle. Liddle then joined fellow starter, Del Pryce, on the bench.
With two of their starters now sitting on the pine for the rest of the game, the Warriors used their strength and size to make things uncomfortable for the Scots inside the arch, and built as much as an eight point lead on their way to the 69-63 win. One notable matchup that the Warriors used late in the game was putting Wincowski on Kobe Lufkin, and it seemed to work as Wincowski was able to keep Lufkin from scoring, and contributed to several of the Scots turnovers.
Wincowski finished with 48 points, which is a season-high for the Junior. Tyler Brown contributed with 7. Andrew McGowan and Jeff Nataly added 7 combined points, the majority coming from the paint. Kobe Lufkin scored a team-high 17 points for the Argyle Scots. Del Pryce and James Bristol scored 12 points and Brock Liddle scored 8.
The win improves the Lake George Warriors record to 12-1, with their lone loss being a non-league defeat from the Hoosick Falls Panthers. Argyle drops their first Adirondack League match in two years, and falls to 11-2 overall.

It's our first high school basketball game of the 2013-14 Winter Sports season when the Lake George Warriors travel to Argyle to face the Scots on Friday night.
You've got to think this game has "Adirondack League Championship Preview" written all over it. Both teams enter the Friday night with similar 11-1 records, with the lone loss coming at the hands of the Hoosick Falls Panthers for both teams.
You had to expect the Lake George Warriors to be in this position, with last year's top scorer, Joel Wincowski, back for his Junior year. The 6' 2" guard had his 8th 30+ point performance with 30 against Corinth on Wednesday, bouncing back from a season-low 19 against Hoosick Falls. He has accounted for 349 of the 827 points that the Warriors have put forth this year. Wincowski has already put together over 1000 points in the last two seasons combined, and has his eyes on the career scoring record for the Warriors.
But you may not have expected to see Argyle once again at the top of the Adirondack League East. There was chatter entering this season that it was going to be a down season for the Argyle Scots, having lost Section 2's leading scorer, Joey Lufkin, to graduation. But Coach Jack Sherwin has restocked, with brother Kobe Lufkin warming up. He has scored 20+ points in his last three games. Del Pryce and Brock Liddle have also stepped up their roles, helping give Argyle the second best offense in the section, only behind high-powered Scotia.
