The Cardinals had scares in the 3rd and 4th quarters, but finally pulled away in the final 3 minutes to secure a spot in Friday night's Class D Sectional Championship with a 56-42 win over the Wolfpack of Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The Cardinals saw even scoring from Tyler Mattison, Luke Loso and Jeremy Johnson, as the trio combined for 45 of the Cardinals 56 points. Loso scored 12 of his 14 points from behind the arch.
The Wolfpack closed the gap to be within 5 points during the 3rd Quarter, and to within 8 points in the 4th Quarter with over 4 minutes to play, but the Cardinals took firm control thanks to a couple of key Wolfpack turnovers, including a lane violation during a second free throw that gave the Cardinals back the ball.
AJ Hayes scored 18 points and Devyn Jones added 15 points in the losing effort for the Wolfpack.
Fort Ann advances to face the winner of Tuesday night's Northville/Argyle semfinal, which will be played at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Friday, March 3rd at 6PM.
