Four Things That Shocked Us - Week #3

Three weeks in, and we're seeing the emergence of teams with aspirations of playing for sectional titles in just under two months.  Some we've seen many times before, others are new to the scene.  It was a fun weekend of football, with a few surprises here and there.  Let's take a look at what surprised us most in Week #3.




4) Grounded Beef

Warrensburg received a harsh message on Saturday by way of the Cambridge Indians, who reasserted their position in Class D after their 63-6 win over the previously undefeated Burghers.  Cambridge is always a good team, showing off the power of what a great coach like Doug Luke can do.  And Warrensburg was showing promise this season.  However, as it turns out, the Burghers have a lot of work they need to do if they're going to topple Cambridge to be the top team in Class D.


3) Blackbirds fly over Warriors

Two weeks in, it was looking like the Indian Bowl coming up in three weeks would determine who would take away the divisional title in Class C Central.  It may still come to that, but it will no longer be a battle of the unbeaten after Stillwater's wings got clipped by the Voorheesville Blackbirds.  Outscoring the Warriors 21-0 in the middle quarters, the Blackbirds went to the air for two of their three touchdowns that helped decide the game.

2) Offensive Explosion for Lake George/Hadley-Luzerne

If Lake George winning the War Canoe in Week 2 was the spark they needed, they showed it in Week #3 with a giant win over Cairo-Durham that showed off the power the Lake George/Hadley-Luzerne War Eagles are capable of.  Building a 54-0 lead at the half, the War Eagles were on cruise control in the second half, winning 62-7 in a team effort.

Since only putting 6 points up against Holy Trinity, the War Eagles have scored 109 points in the last two weeks.  And from what we saw from Holy Trinity in the first three weeks, they're not a bad team.

1) Hudson Stays Unbeaten w/win over Ravena

Heading into Week 3, we said that after a soft couple of weeks, the Hudson Blue Hawks were needing to prove that their 2-0 record was legit.  They did so by knocking off last year's Reinfurt Division #1 seed with their 21-7 win.  Ravena is showing signs of not being the tough threat they were last year, but is always a team to watch, but Hudson is showing us that maybe the team to watch in the Reinfurt Division is across the Hudson River and down in Columbia County this year.
