The Glens Falls Golden Eagles had an opportunity on Saturday to pass Albany for the third and final playoff spot in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League playoffs.  After a 4-1 loss, the Golden Eagles now find themselves better than 1 game behind Albany, as Albany has a better percentage should both teams equal in the number of games back of first place Amsterdam.
But all is not done for the Golden Eagles.  With an extra game in-hand over the Albany Dutchmen, the Golden Eagles could make next Tuesday's game at East Field a lot more interesting for the two rivals.

GLENS FALLS: Games Remaining: 5 - @ Elmira, Utica (DH), Albany, @ Newark
ALBANY: Games Remaining: 4 - @ Mohawk Valley, Mohawk Valley, @ Glens Falls, Amsterdam

Albany has tougher opponents, but both have already cemented their place as the #1 and #2 teams in the East.  With that being said, they're still going to play, but they're not obligated to throw their best guys into the lineup as they will be more than likely be resting them for the playoffs.

The Golden Eagles have to play both Newark and Elmira, both locked into a battle for the top spot in the West, and will come ready to fight when the Golden Eagles come and visit them.  Utica is already assured they will not make the playoffs, but will be playing for pride come Monday at East Field in their doubleheader.  In addition, Utica beat the Golden Eagles in their only meeting this year, a 10-6 win out in Utica that included a 3 hour rain delay on what was supposed to be a doubleheader.

However, the game in hand is what can make things interesting for the Golden Eagles.  If they can sweep their doubleheader against Utica, and win their game on Sunday against Elmira, they could enter Tuesday's showdown at East Field against the Albany Dutchmen with another opportunity to scoop up third place, which would give them control of their destiny on the road in Newark on Wednesday.
