Earlier in the day, it was announced that the Albany Dutchmen cancelled their game against the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dogs.
Since the Golden Eagles were playing a doubleheader, it gave Glens Falls the chance to move within a full game of the Dutchmen for the final playoff spot in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League playoffs.
The Golden Eagles tried their hardest to get the doubleheader in, enduring a 70 minute delay with the Utica Brewers late getting to East Field. But a rain storm at 6PM made the field beyond immediate repair and left the Golden Eagles with no choice but to cancel the doubleheader.
With the season coming to an end on Wednesday, the games will not be made up.
The cancellation keeps the Golden Eagles better than two games behind the Dutchmen for the final playoff spot. With two games left in the season, it mathematically eliminates them from the playoffs, giving the third and final playoff spot to the Dutchmen.
The Golden Eagles close out the season at home against the Albany Dutchmen tonight at 7PM before hitting the road for the final game against the Newark Pilots tomorrow night.

PGCBL Playoff Push: Glens Falls loses, Albany wins
The hill gets steeper for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles had tied their game against the Elmira Pioneers in the 6th inning when Danny Oliveri grounded out, scoring Brian Fay. But the Golden Eagles were unable to produce anymore in that inning, leaving two on base.
Elmira would retake the lead when Michael Fahrman homered in the bottom 7th. They were unable to score any more in that frame, but would plate four runs in the 8th inning as they would prevail 9-4 against the Golden Eagles.
Meanwhile, over in Little Falls, the Albany Dutchmen exploded for three runs in the 3rd, 5 runs in the 4th and another 8 runs in the final three innings as they would cruise by the Diamond Dogs 16-4.
Glens Falls's loss coupled with Albany's win now puts the Dutchmen up two official games ahead of the Golden Eagles, but also leads in win percentage should the two teams equal in games behind league-leading Amsterdam.

Quick Hits: Tuesday, June 24th
YANKEES
The Toronto Blue Jays score six in the second inning, capped by Adam Lind's three-run home run, as they beat the New York Yankees 8-3.
Chase Whitley gave up all eight runs in only 3 1/3rd innings pitched, as he was dealt his first loss of the season. Mark Teixeria had a solo home run in the fourth inning.
David Phelps will try to turn the tide tonight for the Yankees, who have lost three straight. He'll opposite Mark Buehrle for the Blue Jays.
METS
The Mets had a night off on Monday, but announced the return of Travis d'Arnaud.
d'Arnaud is expected to play tonight as the Mets begin a quick two-game interleague series against the Oakland Athletics. The A's come into town with the best record in baseball, and will have former Met 1st Round pick Scott Kazmir on the mound.
Kazmir has won the last three straight starts, including a seven inning affair on Thursday when he punched out eight Red Sox on the A's way to a 4-2 victory.
Bartolo Colon will take the mound for the Mets. In his last start, Colon started what has become a part of the clubhouse culture for the Mets - the towel rally wave. Mets players were seen waving those towels when Colon belted out a hit down the left field line in his last start in St. Louis for his first base hit since 2005. He would later score the tying run that helped lift the Mets to victory over the Cardinals.
It will be Zack Wheeler on the mound for the Mets on Wednesday, facing $1 man Brad Mills for the A's.
RED SOX
Felix Hernandez gets the run support he needs as the Seattle Mariners explode to a 12-3 win over the Boston Red Sox.
The Mariners used a six-run fourth inning to take the lead from the Red Sox for good, chasing starter John Lackey from the game after 3 2/3rds. He got tagged for seven runs, all earned, and Chris Capuano surrendered five runs.
Hernandez pitched seven innings, only giving up two runs while striking out six.
FLAMES
In case you missed it, the Adirondack Flames have a new coach.
Ryan Huska was announced during a press conference in Calgary on Monday to be the first leader of the Adirondack Flames. Huska comes from the Kelowna Rockets, where he led them to a franchise best 57-11-4 record last year.
Read more about his hiring here.
MISCELLANEOUS
Breaking this morning, LeBron James has opted out of his deal with the Miami Heat, making him a free agent.
And the Glens Falls Golden Eagles three game win streak is over after they fall to the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dogs 12-6. They travel to Amsterdam tonight to face the league's hottest team, the Amsterdam Mohawks. The Mohawks extended their win streak to nine last night, bouncing back from a 2-6 start.
The Toronto Blue Jays score six in the second inning, capped by Adam Lind's three-run home run, as they beat the New York Yankees 8-3.

Jonathon Niese pitched six innings, giving up three runs that came in a rough 6th inning that started with Curtis Granderson misplaying a fly ball that turned into a double. Finally Niese was able to settle down and got Derek Dietrich to strike out to end the inning.
The Mets are off before starting a two game interleague series against the Oakland A's on Tuesday.
YANKEES

The Golden Eagles rally started after a Greg Wasikowski throwing error that allowed John Lynn to reach base with one out in the eighth. He would take second on the error, and after a pair of walks loaded the bases, the Golden Eagles got their lead when Garrett Bernardo singled home two runs and Brennan Price brought home two more.
John Leiter gets credit for the win and Tyler Ehlers struck out two on his way to his first save.
The Golden Eagles have a chance to even up their record as they travel to Mohawk Valley tonight.

Wheeler's flat in home debut
The Devils are showing signs of the future. The Golden Eagles play a marathon Saturday night ... will it translate to Sunday success? And Inbee Park does something no other woman has done since 1950.
But the big story today is the big city debut of Zack Wheeler. After an impressive win over the Atlanta Braves to start his major league career, Wheeler was taken off the hook when the Chicago White Sox misplayed what should have been the final out in a Mets loss.
The question was going to be, how would Zack handle playing for the first time in front of the hometown crowd. The crowd was energetic and excited after Wheeler handled the Nationals in order in the 1st inning.
After the Mets failed to convert a runner on 1st and 2nd with only 1 out in the bottom half, Adam LaRoche made sure TV and Radio producers were back on the air as he took Wheeler's 1st offering deep to kick off a four-run 2nd inning for the Nationals where Wheeler was unable to retire the first three Nationals.
It didn't get much better for Wheeler, or the Mets. Already down 5-0, Brandon Lyons got torched for 6 runs in the 8th, 5 of them under his arm and the 6th run coming in after he was replaced by Scott Rice. Washington would score two more runs off Anthony Recker in the 9th, which was countered by John Buck's 13th homer of the season as the Mets drop the rubber game to the Nationals 13-2.
Zack Wheeler's first loss of the season came after a 4 2/3rd inning effort where he allowed 5 runs, all earned, on 6 hits. He struck out 5 and offered 2 free passes via walks.
MARATHON MEN
Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League history was made at East Field on Saturday. Saturday night's game between the Glens Falls Golden Eagles and the Albany Dutchmen marked the first time a game in the league has reached 16 innings.
In the bottom of the 9th, the Dutchmen went with closer Ben Seabrook with a 1 run lead. Seabrook got into trouble quickly, allowing a hit from Ramon Laureano. Laureano would gain 2nd base on a Wild Pitch, then reached 3rd base when a strike out to Josh Anderson wasn't caught by Nate Rupiper, forcing him to throw to 1st. Laureano would score on a Wild Pitch to tie the game.
Both teams would trade runs in the 13th inning, and then after a couple of scoreless innings that saw rain threaten to suspend play, the Golden Eagles would win the game on Bryan Ramirez's single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 16th inning to cap a marathon game that started at 7:05PM and saw its completion at 11:30PM.
Following Saturday night's 16-inning affair, the Golden Eagles were able to win in 9 innings, beating the Newark Pilots 3-1. Starting pitcher Ryan Gray got into trouble in the 3rd inning as he walked the first three batters he faced. The Golden Eagles were able to transcribe two of those walks into runs, and then held on thanks to some strong pitching from Andy Cheray and Armand Rugel.
GOLDEN EAGLE: Josh Anderson has been selected as a co-Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League Player of the Week, thanks to his strong contributions in the batter's box this week. Anderson went .526 with two homers last week in his return to the Golden Eagles. Anderson was last selected as a Player of the Week back in the final week of the 2011 regular season.
FUTURE DEVIL
Of the splashes made in the NHL Draft on Sunday, none were greater than the ones created by the team that was hosting the draft, the New Jersey Devils. The draft started with the Devils trading their first round pick with the Vancouver Canucks for Corey Schneider, giving the Devils a future option for when Martin Brodeur hangs up his goalie mask for the final time.
The draft concluded with Brodeur himself announcing the Devils 7th Round pick, Anthony Brodeur. The offspring of Martin Brodeur will be playing Junior Hockey this winter with the Gatineau Olympiques.
In all, it's been a pretty good weekend for the elder Brodeur. He learned to begin the weekend that he will be on the cover of EA Sports yearly hockey game, NHL '14.
TRIPLE PLAY
Inbee Park has done something no other woman has done since 1950 - win the first three majors of a season in Women's Golf. She accomplished the feat after her four stroke victory in the U.S. Women's Open yesterday on Long Island.
Babe Zaharias was the only other woman to complete that feat. The next major on the schedule for the women is the Women's British Open, which will be held in St. Andrews the first weekend of August.

Midday Recap: Golden Eagles, Mets rained out, Yankees win late last night
The Glens Falls Golden Eagles have already cancelled their game for tonight against the Amsterdam Mohawks, and will be played at a later date to be announced.
Tonight's New York Mets game against the Miami Marlins has been postponed and will be made up as a SINGLE-ADMISSION DOUBLEHEADER on September 14th, 4:10PM.
BATS SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE
The Yankees made it easy for their fans to watch the Yankees game against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. Thanks a 6-run 3rd inning, most fans were able to sleep comfortably and early knowing that the Yankees were likely to pull off their 4th win.
And thanks to Yankee pitching, the winning streak continues as they beat the Mariners 6-1 to kick off their 10-game west coast swing.
Robinson Cano's three-run blast put the Yankees in front, then Mark Teixeira contributed with a solo shot of his own as they helped Phil Hughes win his 3rd of the season and first since May 10th.
The Yankees continue their west coast swing with a late night game against the Seattle Mariners tonight, with first pitch scheduled for 10:10pm.
Meanwhile, over in Washington, the Mets were unable to play their rubber match against the Washington Nationals as rain from Tropical Storm Andrea made the game unplayable. They will make the game up as a day-night doubleheader on July 26th.
WHOOPS
A bad line change has put the Los Angeles Kings on the brink of elimination after Marian Houssa was able to fire what would become the game-winner past Jonathan Quick.
After tying the game for a 2nd time late in the 2nd period, the Blackhawks were able to gain their first lead of the game when the Los Angeles Kings were coming off a line change, all near their bench. Michal Handzus saw this, fed the puck to Hossa, and had a mostly-open net to fire the puck into as the Blackhawks won 3-2 last night at the Staples Center.
The win has the Blackhawks flying back to Chicago for Game 5 with the 3-1 series lead, and will have the chance to close the series on home ice Saturday night in prime time. (NewsChannel 13 WNYT, 8PM)
MIAMI LOSES ANOTHER GAME #1
The Miami Heat opened the NBA Finals with a 92-88 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night.
Tony Parker led the Spurs with 21 points, and Tim Duncan scored 20, as they outscored the Heat 23-16 in the 4th quarter en route to the win.
LeBron James had a triple-double with 18 points, 18 boards and 10 assists in the losing effort for the Heat.
Game 2 is on Sunday night. (10ABC WTEN, 8PM)

The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League has announced that the game has been postponed due to rain. According to the National Weather Service, rain has been falling in Newark, a small town about 10 miles north of Geneva, all day, prompting Flood Watches and Warnings in the area.
No makeup date has been announced, but it already has been announced that the game will be made up as a doubleheader.
Midday Recap: Penguin-slayer, Golden, Hitter's Party, Complete Control Sabathia
PENGUIN-SLAYER
Never during this year's postseason have the Pittsburgh Penguins been on the brink of elimination. Until now.
Jaromir Jagr's handy stick-work between the blues helped to develop the game-winning goal from Patrice Bergeron in double-overtime that gives the Boston Bruins a 3-0 series lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Jagr was working on the far boards, trying to prevent Evengi Malkin from skating away with the puck for the Penguins, effectively fished it away and dished it over to Brad Marchand, who passed it over to Bergeron for the tip-in that ended 95 minutes of hockey between the two clubs.
Now the Pittsburgh Penguins face an elimination game at the TD Garden, and the Boston Bruins are now 1 game away from their 2nd finals in 3 years, a surprising feat given three weeks ago they were staring down the barrel of a 3-goal deficit in the 3rd Period against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7.
Game 4 is Friday night, in Boston.

| Glens Falls Golden Eagles |
In the bottom of the 1st, Ramon Laureano was hit by a pitch, then stole second. After Emmanuel Forcier walked to set up 1st and 2nd with one out, Buddy Putnam doubled to bring Laureano home. A hit-and-run from Blake Sydeski brought home Forcier, and then Putnam came home on a Raphael Gladu single to bring a 3-0 lead into the 2nd.
After getting 1 run in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th, the Golden Eagles blew the game open with a six-run 5th, aided by two errors that let the first two hitters on base, and a 3rd that allowed one more run to score to make the score 12-2 in favor of the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles would cap things off with a five-run 8th.
On the mound, Queensbury native Ryan Davis looked good, pitching 6 innings where he struck out 11, giving up three runs, two earned, to set his ERA at 3.00 after the first game of the season.

Tonight the Golden Eagles are scheduled to travel west to face the Newark Pilots at 7:15PM, providing rain doesn't hamper their plans. They're back at East Field tomorrow night when the league champions, the Amsterdam Mohawks, come to town for a rematch of last year's championship series. The festivities at East Field will include a pre-game concert and a post-game fireworks show, with first pitch scheduled for 7PM.
HITTER'S PARTY
Every starter had a hit as the New York Mets rebounded nicely from their walk-off loss to the Nationals on Tuesday with a 10-1 win last night. Juan Lagares had three hits, and Marlon Byrd and Anthony Recker were key players with three RBI's a piece.
Dillon Gee allowed 9 hits, but struck out 7 as he wins his second straight. He allowed one run, coming in the bottom of the 1st where Ian Desmond brought Dernard Span home.
TONIGHT: No Stephen Strasburg, which will make Mets fans happy, as he was officially placed on the DL yesterday. Instead, the Nationals elect to jump his spot in the rotation and will go with Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez faced the Mets back on April 20th and was rocked for 5 runs on 5 hits as he didn't make it to the 5th inning. The Mets will try to give Shawn Marcum his first win of the season. He was doing well through 6 innings for the Mets his last time out, but became unglued in the 7th inning, when the Marlins took the lead to snap the Mets 5 game win streak.

COMPLETE CONTROL SABATHIA
C.C. Sabathia pitched a complete game as the New York Yankees struck early in their win against the Cleveland Indians. Sabathia pitched a 7-hitter, striking out 9 and surrendering 4 runs as he went the distance.
Travis Hafner hit his 10th home run of the year to put the Yankees on the board in the 1st inning, then Brett Gardner added three more with his 6th in the 2nd inning.
Corey Kluber was the losing pitcher for Cleveland.

Midday Recap: Parn-hell, Big Teix and a Grimm Night
Bobby Parnell blows save, Nats walk off on fly ball.
It took only 8 pitches for Bobby Parnell to blow the save last night against the Washington Nationals. 11 pitches later, Parnell was staring down the wrong end of a Nationals walk-off as Steve Lombardozzi drove in the winning run through a sac-fly to left field.
It wrecks what should have been Jeremy Hefner's 2nd win of the season. Hefner allowed only 4 hits, as his only blemish was a solo shot from Ian Desmond in the 2nd inning. He struck out 7 in his 7 innings pitched, and has seen his ERA improve from the high of 7.20 when he pitched in relief in Colorado and gave up two home runs, to the better looking 4.36 it sits after yesterday's game.
Omar Quintanilla continues to bat well, going 2 for 3 with a double and a triple. Since being called up from Las Vegas, Quintanilla has batted .529, including 7 for 11 in June. He batted in both of the Mets runs.
It was the first walkoff for the Nationals this year, who needed the win to get back at .500 on the year. They'll try to stay above that line tonight as they send Dan Haren to the mound. He surrendered two runs in a losing effort against the Baltimore Orioles last week, and is hoping to get his ERA below 5.00. Dillon Gee is coming off a career-high 12 strikeouts against the Yankees last week, and would love to have a similarly satisfying game to help get his ERA under control.

BIG TEIX
Yesterday we mentioned the work Mark Teixeira did against the Cleveland Indians as he helped the Yankees get off their losing ways. Well, last night, he did it again.
His 3-run shot in the 3rd inning helped make David Phelps a winner as the Yankees hung on for the 4-3 win. It was a nervous moment for Yankees fans as Joba Chamberlain surrendered a homer to Drew Stubbs that pulled the Indians within one, but got out of the mess with the lead intact.
The Yankees wrap up the series with a matinee at Yankee Stadium, as C.C. Sabathia takes the mound for the 1:05PM start. The Yankees then start a west coast swing as they start a four game series in Seattle on Thursday.
GRIMM NIGHT
Every starter for the Boston Red Sox made it on the bases as the Boston Red Sox struck early and often on their way to a 17-5 pummeling of the Texas Rangers.
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Justin Grimm only made it 5 outs before having to be yanked, having already surrendered 8 runs at that time. The Rangers used 6 pitchers in the game, accumulating as many strike outs combined as Ryan Dempster had for the Red Sox, 6.
In all, 7 home runs were hit at Fenway, four from the bats of the Red Sox. Mike Carp accounted for one of those homers on his way to a three-for-four game where he batted in 3 runs. David Ortiz also drove in 3 runs as he hit a double and a triple.
HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS
The Los Angeles Kings cut the deficit in half with their 3-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
Justin Williams got the Kings on the board 3 minutes into the game with his 6th of the playoffs. Slava Voynov scored in the 2nd period to give the Kings a 2-0 lead in the 2nd Period. Just before the intermission, though, Bryan Bickell's 7th of the Playoffs trimmed the deficit, and gave Chicago some momentum heading into the 3rd Period.
But the Blackhawks were unable to solve Jonathan Quick, stopping 19 of the 20 shots he faced, and the Kings prevailed 3-1 at the Staples Center.
Game #4 is slated for Thursday night in Los Angeles.
GOLDEN RULE
The Glens Falls Golden Eagles start their 2013 campaign tonight at East Field as they host the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs. The Golden Eagles are trying to build off last year's success where they made it to the League Championship Series before falling to the Amsterdam Mohawks.
Queensbury alum Ryan Davis is scheduled to start on the mound for the Golden Eagles this evening.
The Glens Falls Golden Eagles play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League and are in their 10th season of play at East Field.
First Pitch is at 7PM.
