PGCBL Playoff Push: Glens Falls loses, Albany wins

The hill gets steeper for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles had tied their game against the Elmira Pioneers in the 6th inning when Danny Oliveri grounded out, scoring Brian Fay.  But the Golden Eagles were unable to produce anymore in that inning, leaving two on base.

Elmira would retake the lead when Michael Fahrman homered in the bottom 7th.  They were unable to score any more in that frame, but would plate four runs in the 8th inning as they would prevail 9-4 against the Golden Eagles.

Meanwhile, over in Little Falls, the Albany Dutchmen exploded for three runs in the 3rd, 5 runs in the 4th and another 8 runs in the final three innings as they would cruise by the Diamond Dogs 16-4.

Glens Falls's loss coupled with Albany's win now puts the Dutchmen up two official games ahead of the Golden Eagles, but also leads in win percentage should the two teams equal in games behind league-leading Amsterdam.

Albany now has the opportunity to clinch the final playoff spot in the East on Monday.  Should the Dutchmen win their game against Mohawk Valley in Albany, they will only need one loss by the Golden Eagles in their home doubleheader against the Utica Brewers to clinch their spot in the playoffs.

The Dutchmen and the Golden Eagles meet at East Field on Tuesday.
