Mets bats fail as Harvey is forced to take a loss

You pitch 7 innings, giving up one run on five hits, striking out 7.  Most cases that would earn you the win.

Not when you're pitching for the New York Mets.

Matt Harvey did just that, allowing the lone run to be batted in on Matt Carpenter's triple as the New York Mets lose to the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1.

And because he didn't get any run support, the Mets ace was forced to take his first loss of the season.

Adam Wainwright did well to keep the Mets at bay, pitching 7 innings of four-hit ball, striking out 6.  But the Mets had a chance to strike against Wainwright in the 4th inning, when he seemed to be shaken up when David Wright became the Mets first base runner on a single to center.  He uncharacteristically walked Daniel Murphy to set up 1st and 2nd with 2 outs.

Lucas Duda came close to making Wainwright pay, but missed it by feet as he flied out to Jon Jay at the warning track.

The Cardinals added insurance in the 8th with Allen Craig brought home Carlos Beltran, which turned out to be needed as Marlon Byrd nailed a solo shot to left field to make things interesting in the bottom 9th.  With two men out and John Buck at 3rd, Josh Satin swung at an 8th pitch splitter to end the game.
