NYSPHSAA BEDS Numbers for 2015-16

Below are the NYSPHSAA BEDS for 2015-16 courtesy of the New York Public High School Athletic Association.  Next to them, based on the current enrollments, are where teams would be classified for both Football and Basketball (as well as other team sports like Soccer and Baseball/Softball).

The numbers DO NOT GUARANTEE that the team would play in such classification, as teams have been known to request to play lesser competition and sacrifice their sectional eligibility (i.e., Hoosic Valley Football has played Class D competition the last few years despite being Class C), and likewise, have requested to play in a higher classification (i.e., Troy Boys Hoops elected to played AA in 2013-14 despite being a A squad).

It also doesn't take into effect the rules regarding private schools (CBA would never play Class B Football), nor does it configure teams playing as a merged unit, like Lake George/Hadley-Luzurne did last year in Football.

In other words, this is merely a guide to the next year in local high school sports.

Correction: We incorrectly noted Maine-Endwell in Section 4 to maintain their Class B status, allowing them to continue to defend their State Championship.  They actually will be classified as a Class A school in 2015-16.  In addition, Glens Falls will be downgraded to a Class B school for basketball and other 5-classification sports that isn't football.

So after everything is figured, Lansingburgh and Green Tech look to return to Class B competition next season, which should return Schalmont to the West Division after their year's stint in the Reinfurt Division.

Otherwise, there are no real changes to note for Football.  In Basketball, St. Johnsville and Fort Plain will fall back to Class D after being Class C schools this year, and Stillwater will make the jump from Class C to B, joining their local rival Mechanicville.  Glens Falls will fall from a Class A school to a Class B school when it comes to the Sectional Championships next year.

Statewide, four of five football champions will get to defend their championship in the classification they earned it, as Jamestown (AA), Indian River (A), Chenango Forks (C) and Randolph (D) do not change classifications.  However, Maine-Endwell, winners of four straight State Championships, returns to the classification that they won their first state championship, Class A.  Chester, the team that knocked off Cambridge in their way to the Dome, will now be a Class C team instead of D.  Cornwall, who has faltered against Queensbury the last two years, will remain in A, and Marlboro, who has made it to three straight State Semis before losing to Section 2, will continue to be a Class B team.  Up north, Massena remains as the North Country's only Class A team, earning them the automatic berth into the State Quarterfinals, and Franklin Academy is Section 10's only Class B team.  Peru, Beekmantown and Plattsburgh are Section 7's Class B teams.

The official announcement of the divisions and schedules will come at a later date, as it becomes better known how many teams will merge with other districts for the 2015-16 season.
