Scotia Wins Third Straight Foothills Council Title

GLENS FALLS - Joe Cremo tipped the ball perfectly into Mike Palleschi's hands, who ran free to the bucket.

In the blink of an eye, the Scotia Tartans took a 2-0 lead.  It was a lead they would never see depart as they won the Foothills Council Championship easily over the Queensbury Spartans 79-43.

The Tartans win is their 45th straight win, the longest active streak in New York State.

The Spartans had a tough time getting the basketball to sink through the net, falling behind 20-3 before finally scoring a couple buckets to finish the first quarter down 23-7.

Meanwhile, the Tartans scored from all ends of the court.  Mike Palleschi was found in the lane for an easy lay-up.  Scott Stopera was seen hanging outside the arch for one of his six threes.  Joe Cremo would make moves to free other players on defense, and distributed the ball with ease for the score.

The Spartans had a tough time gaining an inside game, as the Tartans clogged up the key effectively.  The third quarter was the toughest for the Spartans, as they were outscored 27-7 as all chances at winning the Foothills Council Championship evaporated.

Joe Cremo scored 31 points, and Scott Stopera used six three point buckets on his way to scoring 20 for the defending State Federation Champions.  The Scotia Tartans have won three straight Foothills Council Championships, and now look to make it four straight years representing Section 2 in the NYSPHSAA State Tournament as Class A Sectional Champions.

For Queensbury, Keeghan O'Leary, like in the first meeting with Scotia this year, was kept under his average of 17 points per game as the senior center scored 10 points.  Justin Trolestra scored 8, all in the first half.  Brett Rodriguez added 7.
