Boys Hoops - Our Top 4, 2/4/14

Here's our unscientific Top 4 for each classification through Tuesday, February 3rd's games.

CLASS AA
1) Green Tech (12-0)
2) Shenendehowa (16-0)
3) Guilderland (12-2)
4) Bethlehem (13-3)

COMMENTS: Bethlehem took care of Averill Park easily last night.  Shenendehowa continues to roll as they easily beat Saratoga Springs, Green Tech continues to pace for a showdown with the Plainsmen at the Times Union Center in March, and Guilderland could be fun to watch.

CLASS A
1) Scotia (15-0)
2) Amsterdam (12-4)
3) Averill Park (12-4)
4) Troy (10-5)

COMMENTS: Troy gets extra credit for easily beating Schenectady in a game that, on paper, should have been much closer.  Scotia dismantled Broadalbin-Perth thanks to an 18-0 run to close out the second quarter as Joe Cremo continues to get help from his supporting cast.  Amsterdam continues to display why the Southern Division of the Foothills Council is the scarier division this year thanks to a win over Schuylerville on Tuesday.  Averill Park's spot at #3 is hanging on by a thread right now, as the Warriors will need to display better offense when they face Guilderland on Friday.

CLASS B
1) Hoosick Falls (14-0)
2) Schalmont (12-2)
3) Catskill (12-1)
4) Cohoes (12-4)

COMMENTS: As noted last week, there are several teams that could easily make the list.  Broadalbin-Perth lost their inclusion on the list with their double-digit loss to Scotia.  Had it been close like the first tilt, then perhaps the Patriots would have earned themselves a spot on the list with their win over Mekeel Christian Academy.  Hoosick Falls looked impressive beating a Hoosic Valley team that had played close games against the Panthers the last three tilts.  Schalmont bounced back from their loss to Green Tech with a pair of 75 point games.  Catskill has only one loss this season, and that was to Class A's Saugerties in Section 9.  Cohoes is showing signs of strengthening now that Brandon LaForest is back on the court.  There are NINE teams with ten wins or greater in Class B, which will make for a fascinating tournament in a couple weeks.

CLASS C
1) Lake George (16-1)
2) Greenwich (13-2)
3) Stillwater (10-5)
4) Spa Catholic (10-6)

COMMENTS: Of these four teams, the one to keep an eye on is Stillwater.  The Warriors face Greenwich on Wednesday night, then have to turn around and play Hoosick Falls on Friday night.  If they can split either of these games, then they could move ahead in the standings.  If they fall in both, then you might not see them on the list come next Wednesday.  Greenwich still has a game against Hoosick Falls left on their schedule, and it could very well come down to that game to determine whether or not the Witches have any shot at the #1 seed.  Joel Wincowski had a career game for Lake George on Tuesday, helping move the Warriors closer to that #1 seed.  Spa Catholic finished strong over Galway.  Waterford is an outsider who could move into the list if they knock off Germantown on Wednesday.

CLASS D
1) Germantown (13-1)
2) Fort Ann (12-2)
3) North Warren (12-3)
4) Fort Edward (11-6)

COMMENTS: Germantown has a strong game on tap against Waterford on Wednesday that could determine the Central Hudson Valley League title.  Fort Ann clinched the Adirondack League East with some help with their Friday night opponent, Fort Edward.  The Flying Forts got revenge for their earlier loss to Argyle by beating them at Argyle Central School on Tuesday.  Northville's loss to St. Johnsville leaves them off the Top 4 for now, but the Falcons could get back on the list with help on Friday.  North Warren stays on the list despite a tough loss against Lake George by virtue of their 5 point win at Fort Edward the week prior.
