SOUTH GLENS FALLS - The South Glens Falls Bulldogs scored three of their four touchdowns from 90 or more yards out, including a Pick-6 at the end to seal the 26-14 victory over the Ravena Indians on Friday Night.
The Bulldogs, now 2-0 on the young season, jumped out to an early lead thanks to Dylan Schrammel's 70 yard opening kickoff return for a touchdown to start the scoring. He would score again later in the half with a 95 yard punt return for a score with 9:43 left in the 2nd quarter to make it 13-0 Bulldogs. Aidan Daives would add a 99 yard pass reception for a touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 20-0 lead.
While the Bulldogs were doing it via the long ball, the Indians were gaining slowly on every drive. They would score their first of two touchdowns with two seconds left in the half, when Marlon Laing capped a drive with a 3 yard score.
The extended drives for Ravena resulted in a 21:00-3:00 time of possession differential at the half, running 45 plays to the Bulldogs nine during the opening half. The Indians had several attempts inside the red zone, but couldn't finish the drive as a goal-line stance for the Bulldogs resulted in two turnovers on downs inside the Bulldogs 10 yard line, including one right on the goal line that resulted in the 99 yard touchdown score for Daives.
Both teams had several stalled out drives in the third quarter, but Ravena began knocking on the door again in the 4th quarter, scoring from 8 yards out on a pass from Brandon Warnken to Rich Koonz. Laing's run to the outside on the extra point try would pull the Indians within 6. He would finish with 168 yards on 35 carries, receiving the bulk of the work for Ravena.
The Indians would drive again in hurry-up mode under the direction of replacement quarterback Nate Boomhower, aided by a pair of pass interference calls that gave the Indians possession of the ball inside the Bulldogs 15 yard line. But with time running out, Boomhower lobbed a pass that wound up in the hands of K.J. Mickel, who sealed the deal on a pick-6 from 95 yards as time expired.
Connor Bovair passed for over 100 yards, and Dylan Schrammel added to his two special teams touchdowns with 50 yards on 6 carries for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs return to Class A play next Friday as they travel to Averill Park to face the Warriors in a battle of 2-0 teams. Ravena begins divisional play next Friday as they head home to face the Hudson Blue Hawks.

GAMES TO WATCH:
Saratoga Springs at Shenendehowa: The rivalry between these two schools 13 miles apart features two squads that won convincingly in their Week 1 matches. Wes Englintine should be a lot of fun to watch, throwing 3 touchdowns in the Blue Streaks win over Niskayuna in Week 1. The Plainsmen built on a 28-20 halftime lead over Guilderland, thanks in part to Griffin Wallner, who scored 2 second half touchdowns for Shen.
Troy at Guilderland: Troy easily handed Columbia a loss last Friday, but this week won't be as easy. The test for the defending State Champions increases with a road trip to Guilderland. The Dutchmen played competitive with Shenendehowa last week, but couldn't muster the comeback to fall to 0-1 on the season.
Hudson at Schuylerville: Hudson had their home debut spoiled by the defending Class B State Champions last week, now has to go on the road to Schuylerville. It's been well documented about the short roster at Schuylerville, but when healthy, they are a strong bunch. This was proven last Friday when they won in Rotterdam over the Schalmont Sabres, who will be playing in another game to watch.
Schalmont at Glens Falls: So after dropping their opening game against Schuylerville 47-14, the Sabres travel up to Glens Falls, where they will watch the defending State Champions play their first home game since the Sectional Semifinals last year. It'll be a loud environment at Putt LaMay field for sure.
Holy Trinity at Mechanicville: Mechanicville's offense exploded in their Week 1 game against Fonda-Fultonville. Holy Trinity will be a stronger challenge, but they need to put up more than the 13 points that put up against Chatham last week. The winner has a stronger case to host come Week 8 of the playoffs.

The defending State Champions return, looking strong in Troy's 55-14 win over Columbia. Shen wins a wild game against Guilderland at felt like a remake of last year's tilt. Saratoga Springs gets ready for their Week 2 rivalry game against Shen with their Week 1 win over Niskayuna. And the Blue Bison shuts out CBA, 31-0.
Class A:
Queensbury jumps out to a 14-0 early lead against the defending Sectional Champions, but Burnt Hills pulls away at the end in a fun back-and-forth game at Queensbury on Saturday, winning 31-20 in a classification where every game is going to matter. South Glens Falls starts their season 1-0 with a big 35-20 win over Gloversville. Amsterdam wins their first opener in a few years by beating Scotia 35-8, and Averill Park is 1-0 after a non-conference win over Class B's Lansingburgh.
Class B:
The Glens Falls Indians spoil the debut of Hudson's new field, showing little sign of stopping with their 34-0 win over the Blue Hawks in a rematch of the 2016 Sectional Championship. Schuylerville is setting up a very important Week 6 match in Class B after their win over Schalmont. How the other teams shape up in Class B will come into shape in the coming weeks, especially when divisional play begins for most in Week 3.
Class C:
Stillwater and Mechanicville start off hot, scoring big wins over Corinth and Fonda. Holy Trinity's 13-6 win over Chatham should be closely watched as the season progresses. Lake George loses a prime opportunity to get the season started with a big win over Hoosick Falls, but fail to capitalize when gifted prime field position.
Class D:
There's no doubt about it. Cambridge is good. Greenwich looks solid in their win over fellow former Class C team Hoosic Valley. Canajoharie scores a big win over Granville squad seeking a new identity in 2017, and Warrensburg's quickly scheduled Week 1 game against Woodstock, Vermont gives us an opportunity to see what the kids in the 'Burg are made of. Kudos to Woodstock for accepting to play, and making the 1 3/4 hour trek from Central Vermont to play after Salem's decision to play JV only left the Burghers without a matchup.
So with the recap, let's hand out some awards...
SURPRISE OF THE WEEK
Canajoharie at Granville - Canajoharie is talented, and us putting this as a "surprise" isn't in any way a knock on their talent, but more of a surprise how little offense Granville wound up generating. With Granville going down to smaller Class D school and picking up state championship winning coach John Irion, it was a surprise to see the Golden Horde be kept off the scoreboard. Could this be a sign of Canajo's defense? Or could we see the Golden Horde offense pick up as the kids begin to gel under Irion's program?
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Cambridge - What's a state champion to do? How about starting off 2017 with a 57-0 throbbing against the Rensselaer Rams? The only time this game was in doubt was at the opening kick and shows that Doug Luke's squad will be ones to watch in Class D. That week 5 game against Greenwich is looking even more appealing to watch now.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Burnt Hills at Queensbury - The Spartan Bowl returned to the regular season lineup after a year off, and did not disappoint. Queensbury's early 14-0 lead dissolved, and the two teams gave the spectators a great back and forth game that wasn't fully decided until the final half of the 4th quarter.

RECAP: Deflected Pass Helps Lead Panthers to Week 1 Victory
For the Hadley-Luzerne/Lake George WarEagles, a Hoosick Falls Panthers turnover turned into 6 points when Michael Johnson connected with Chris Becker for a 3 yard touchdown pass with just over two minutes to play in the half.
But Hoosick Falls answered back in one of the most unpredictable ways, as a Sam Richard pass to Jeffrey Vincent was finger-tipped into the hands of teammate Nick Giordano, who had all but one WarEagle beat when he caught the pass, and powered past for the 70 yard touchdown score.
Both extra point attempts were missed, resulting in a 6-6 halftime score.
With the ball to begin the third quarter, Hoosick Falls would pull ahead for good, scoring with a touchdown run by Drew Hoag to give the Panthers the 13-6 lead.
It would be a score that would last until the final whistle.
Several attempts by the WarEagles to draw even fizzled, either by punt or by a fumble (in Hoosick Falls territory). One final attempt by the WarEagles to draw even resulted in a turnover of downs, and the Panthers would be able to drain the clock to give them the first win of the season.
Hoosick Falls will be on the road next Friday to face the Corinth Tomahawks. The WarEagles hit the road and will play the Braves of Fonda-Fultonville.
PLAYER OF THE GAME:
For every game we are broadcasting on FOX Sports Radio 97.9/1230, we are going to designate a player who we felt was the most important player in that team's victory. For this game, that designation goes to Sam Richard, who passed for over 200 yards, including that 70 yard touchdown toss in the 2nd quarter. While he had two interceptions, his offensive power will be fun to watch as the season progresses for the Hoosick Falls Panthers.

2017 High School Football Schedule
FOX Sports Radio North Country, 97.9FM/1230AM, will broadcast 10 regular season games this fall, covering nearly all schools within its broadcast radius in 2017.
The schedule kicks off on Labor Day weekend with a pair of games, starting with the Friday Night Lights match between the Hoosick Falls Panthers and the Lake George/Hadley-Luzerne War Eagles and continuing into Saturday afternoon with the renewal of the Spartan Bowl between Burnt Hills and Queensbury.
In Week 2 we head south of the river for an interclass matchup between Ravena and the South Glens Falls Bulldogs. Then in Week 3 we head for the first of two trips to Schuylerville this season as the Black Horses host the Hudson Falls Tigers in Class B.
Then a trip across the river to Greenwich for Week 4, as we check out John Irion's new team in Granville as the Golden Horde face the Witches in the Whipple City.
A doubleheader is on tap for Week 5, starting under the lights in Corinth as the Tomahawks face the Mechanicville Red Raiders, and wrapping up under the sunlight on Saturday Afternoon as the Fort Edward/Argyle Flying Forts face the Warrensburg Burghers.
A return trip to Schuylerville is on deck in Week 6 as we catch the defending champions for the first time all season. The Glens Falls Indians, favorites to repeat again in Section 2, get tested by the Schuylerville Black Horses in what should determine the divisional champion.
Finally, rivalries are on the docket in Week 7 with a pair of games in Washington County. First, under the portable lights in Granville, the Golden Horde face off against the Whitehall Railroaders in a renewal of their longtime rivalry, and then on Saturday, the annual Jug Game takes place in Hudson Falls as the Tigers host the Glens Falls Indians.
Week 8's broadcasts will be determined at a later time, with playoff games in Classes B and C getting priority. If no local options exist, games that matter towards playoff seeding in Classes A and D will be scheduled for this week. Weeks 9 and beyond will depend if local teams are still playing for a title, and will be made the week of the broadcast.
All broadcasts will begin 15 minutes before kickoff with a pregame show featuring coach interviews, previews of the game, and a comprehensive look at what's going on across Section 2. All games will be heard on both frequencies, 97.9FM and 1230AM.

Buffalo Bills returning for 6th season on WMML
All 16 regular season games will air on FOX Sports Radio 97.9FM/AM 1230, in addition to the final preseason game on Thursday, August 31st against the Detroit Lions as we ensure proper reception of the game broadcast prior to the regular season.
With new head coach Sean McDermott and returning stars like Lesean McCoy, the 2017 Buffalo Bills hope to end their playoff drought, sitting at 17 years without making the playoffs. But making the playoffs will be tough as the Bills face strong teams like the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons in addition to their AFC East opponents in the Jets, Dolphins and Patriots.
All broadcasts will begin two hours before kickoff with the Buffalo Bills Pregame Show, hosted by Howard Simon (Mike Schoop and Chris 'The Bulldog' Parker for the Thursday night game) as he and other members of the local Buffalo media analyze the upcoming game, and highlight major stories unfolding in the National Football League.
Play-by-play broadcaster John Murphy takes over 30 minutes prior to kickoff as he interviews head coach Sean McDermott and break down the keys to the game with his analyst partner Mark Kelso.
After the game, listen for the Buffalo Bills post-game report for a breakdown of the game, scores from across the National Football League, press conferences from the coach and key players, and reactions from Buffalo Bills fans.
Studio broadcasts will emanate from the WGR-550 studios in Buffalo.

B Championship: Glens Falls 60, Mekeel Christian Academy 55
In a wild back-and-forth battle of unbeatens, the Glens Falls Indians dug in and came away in the 4th quarter to beat the Mekeel Christian Academy Lions 60-55 in the Class B Sectional Championship at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The game featured plenty of scoring early as the two teams combined for 45 points in the first quarter, capped by Carter Stewart's half court three at the buzzer for the Lions. Stewart scored 18 points in the first half as Mekeel Christian Academy went to the half up by five points.
Joe Girard III started slow for Glens Falls, scoring 14 points in the first half, but started the second off with a bang, scoring the first couple buckets as the Indians quickly seized the lead away from Mekeel Christian Academy in the third quarter. Tony Green's coast-to-coast play tied the game at 40-40, but Jordan Jackson's three gave the Lions back the lead with less than two minutes in the third quarter.
The Lions had opportunities late in the game, like when Joe Girard III was called for the offensive charge with over five minutes left in the fourth quarter. Mekeel would score a three on the ensuing possession to take a 1 point lead, but Joe Girard III answered back with a three to retake the lead. Girard would dig in late with 12 points to help pad the Indians lead, and seal the Lions fate.
He would finish with 34 points, earning him tournament MVP honors.
Tony Green assisted with 10 points, 2 of which coming by fluke as he unintentionally tipped in a rebound off a missed Joe Girard III shot in the third quarter. Dylan Balcom added 8 for the Indians.

D Championship: Argyle 64, Fort Ann 60
A battle between Adirondack League rivals turned into a battle between top scorers Kobe Lufkin and Tyler Mattison in the Class D Championship at the Glens Falls Civic Center. But it was the weight of Kobe Lufkin's 3 point shooting that led the Argyle Scots to back-to-back championships, winning the Class D title over the Fort Ann Cardinals 64-60.
The Cardinals flew to a 10-0 advantage in the 1st quarter before Kobe Lufkin and Jonah Horton combined to draw the Scots closer to Fort Ann, before taking a narrow lead in the 2nd quarter. The duo teamed up for the majority of Argyle's ten 3 pointers in the 1st half.
During the half, Section 2 acknowledged Kobe Lufkin's passing of Joel Wincowski for all-time scoring leader in the section, to a standing ovation at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The third quarter saw the Cardinals build another lead before the long ball allowed the Scots to regain the narrow advantage, leading 51-50 at the end of the 3rd quarter. It was an advantage the Scots wouldn't relinquish.
Peyton Lufkin scored a three with 2:35 left in the game that put the Argyle Scots up by 6, but Fort Ann would battle back to within 2. But that was as close as they would get, as a pair of Argyle foul shots would seal the deal with less than 30 seconds to go.
Kobe Lufkin scored 30 points for the Scots, getting 24 of those 30 points long-range. Jonah Horton added 15 points before fouling out late in the 4th quarter, and Brodie Flewelling contributed with 11 points.
For Fort Ann, Tyler Mattison ends his high school career with 29 points, including 12 in the 3rd quarter. Jeremy Johnson added 13 points for the Cardinals.
Argyle moves onto the NYSPHSAA State Tournament, facing the winner of Section 7's Class D title game. The regional game will be next Saturday, 3PM at Hudson Valley Community College.

Peyton Lufkin scored a three with 2:35 left in the game that put the Argyle Scots up by 6, but Fort Ann would battle back to within 2. But that was as close as they would get, as a pair of Argyle foul shots would seal the deal with less than 30 seconds to go.
Kobe Lufkin scored 30 points for the Scots, getting 24 of those 30 points long-range. Jonah Horton added 15 points before fouling out late in the 4th quarter, and Brodie Flewelling contributed with 11 points.
For Fort Ann, Tyler Mattison ends his high school career with 29 points, including 12 in the 3rd quarter. Jeremy Johnson added 13 points for the Cardinals.
Argyle moves onto the NYSPHSAA State Tournament, facing the winner of Section 7's Class D title game. The regional game will be next Saturday, 3PM at Hudson Valley Community College.

He may of started cold, but buckets inside, outside and at the line helped propel his Indians to victory.

The Class A Semifinal between these two teams seemed tight throughout, despite Lansingburgh fronting the Warriors a head start. It was a game where you never knew who was going to pull through until the very end, and forced both teams to go all out at the end, giving the crowd that came to the Glens Falls Civic Center Wednesday evening a thrill.

Comebacks
With a couple exceptions, the team that came out in front at the final buzzer had to make a mid-game comeback in order to get ahead of their opposition as the higher seed. Lake George was the only team who didn't wear the lighter jersey to advance in the end, but like said in our recap, their win over Granville was less of a surprise than Dave Jones figuring out what his team needed to do to knock off the Golden Horde.
In all these comeback cases, the opposition cooled down. Whether it was bad turnovers or bad shot selection, or a case where the better team on paper made the necessary adjustments. Case in point, Glens Falls, who yielded a early lead to Ichabod Crane. Leading scorer Joe Girard III had an uncharacteristic 14 points at the half before exploding in the 2nd half for 28. Whatever adjustments the Indians made at the half, it worked.
But all of these teams with cold starts cannot be doing this in their next game. A slow start could prove to be fatal, especially in the case of Mekeel vs. Glens Falls, which could become a shootout at the Glens Falls Civic Center between two of the best scoring teams in Section 2.
Lufkin's Accomplishment
It surprised me that NO announcement was made about Kobe Lufkin topping Joel Wincowski's scoring mark. I understand the comments given to Will Springstead by head coach Jack Sherwin about there being a time or a place, and I honestly wouldn't of wanted to see the game be halted for fanfare. But it would of been nice to note the occasion via the P.A., even if said announcement came after the teams walked off the court at the end of the game. While Lufkin's time on the top of Section 2's scoring may be limited as it will be no surprise if Joe Girard III crushes the mark in the next two years, it should of been commemorated somehow.
The Civic Center
This was my first year taking in all the games at the Glens Falls Civic Center, instead of just games of local interest. It was nice for once to be able to see athletes from across Section 2, and see the variety of play that exists across the Section. It's a shame this court won't see the NYSPHSAA Championships in two weeks, so why not come by this weekend to check out the best Section 2 has to offer.
Pep Bands
Hearing the pep bands Thursday night from Stillwater and Granville added a jolt to the Civic Center. It makes what is already a great place to watch some basketball even better. It would be nice if more schools had pep bands, and as Stillwater showed in their four piece outfit, it doesn't have to be big to be enjoyable.
Maybe the Civic Center should ask, since they are the lead-off game for the C Championship on Saturday, if their pep band can perform The Star-Spangled Banner instead of using the pre-recorded organ.

Game 10: Lake George 69, Granville 55
It was a team effort for Lake George as the Warriors knocked off the top-seeded Granville Golden Horde in the Class C Sectional Semifinals in their 69-55 win.
The top-seeded Golden Horde fell behind early, but unlike other top seeds this week, was unable to mount the comeback needed to get past the Warriors as fouls, turnovers and missed shots added up, especially in the third quarter.
While Mason Flatley led the Lake George Warriors with 22 points, two other Warriors had over 10 points. Alex Jones scored 12, while Caleb Scrime, despite missing part of the third quarter after going down hard chasing a rebound off a missed Granville shot, put up 17 points.
Matthew Fuller led the Golden Horde with 21 points, 9 of which came in the 4th quarter. Trace Bourne scored 10 points.
Lake George became the only team to knock off a higher seed in the 10 semifinal games at the Glens Falls Civic Center, though their win should come as little surprise to those who have observed the Adirondack League this season. It was the second straight win for Lake George over the Granville Golden Horde, who became league rivals this year with their move to the Adirondack League from the Wasaren League. This was the fourth meeting between these two teams this season, with Granville winning the first two.
Lake George won the two that mattered most, however, first in the Adirondack League playoffs, then now in the Class C Semifinals to end the Golden Horde's season.

The Maple Hill Wildcats had a fast start, jumping to a narrow 10-9 advantage to open the second quarter, and after three points to take a 4 point lead, it was all Stillwater, as they established a 18-0 run to jump out to a 27-16 lead before Maple Hill scored their first bucket in nearly 10 minutes with Nate Mannion's three point bucket.
Maple Hill did themselves few favors as they continued to turn over the ball and gave up several offensive rebounds to the Warriors. Those woes would continue into the second half as the shooters for Maple Hill would get cold.

Maple Hill Wildcats vs. Stillwater Warriors - 6PM
Maple Hill: March Madness is about being hot at the right time. A cold December and January doesn't matter when your team's hot in February and March. And that summarizes the story with the Wildcats, who come to the Glens Falls Civic Center as the highest seeded team of any of the 20 teams that come this week. At #14, the Wildcats were at home in their outbracket game against Greenwich, but had to go on the road to face a Greenville squad they lost to twice earlier in the season. Then a neutral-site game against a battle-tested Mechanicville set them up for tonight.
On paper, the thought would be to contain the team's leading scorer, Austin Decker. But in two of the three tournament games, Decker has scored below his average, scoring 7 points against Greenwich and 11 in the quarterfinals against Mechanicville. Nate Minnion scored a season-high 17 points instead against Greenwich, and team's second-leading scorer Garrett Axtmann contributed against Mechanicville.
The defense will get a test against Stillwater that they haven't seen in the first three tournament games. Allowing an average of 48 points in the tournament, the Wildcats have not needed an offensive explosion to be successful.
Stillwater: Jared D'Aloia is going to be the player to watch for the team from the Wasaren League. The tournament's #2 seed comes to Glens Falls off a 65-50 win over Duanesburg where D'Aloi scored 22 points. But containing him will be tough, and focusing on him will lead to trouble if secondary scorer Zack Travis is left alone. He scored 16 against Duanesburg, and has compiled 8 games where the senior has scored 20 or more points.
The Warriors last loss, to Hoosic Valley, was a game where Stillwater entered the 4th quarter with the lead before the Indians outscored the Warriors 24-8. Even in that game, D'Aloia and Travis produced to their averages, which will make them tough threats to watch out on the court.
Stillwater cannot look at Maple Hill's record and seeding. Nor can they let the bigger atmosphere of playing at the Glens Falls Civic Center affect their style of play. Already this week we've seen the higher-seeded teams have soft starts, only to explode in the 3rd and 4th quarters. And if Stillwater wants to have a decent shot at winning the sectional title on Saturday, they may need to play a full four quarter game.
Lake George Warriors vs. Granville Golden Horde - 7:30PM
Lake George: The Lake George Warriors won the latest chapter against the new team in the Adirondack League before falling to Fort Ann in the league championship. A quick look at the Warriors show no player with 20 points per game, but there's a good reason for it.
They have three threats on the court who can score. Caleb Scrime has 9 games with 20 or more points this season, including a 20 point effort in the 1st round of the Class C playoffs against Cambridge. Against Schoharie, he scored 15 points, but it was a team effort as teammate and 3rd scorer on the team, Mason Flatley scored 16 points in the win. Flatley has three 20 point games this season, the latest being a 21 point game against Hadley-Luzurne last month. The two are joined by Alex Jones, who himself has three 20 point games this season as well.
Containing one top scorer can be easy. But three will be a difficult case for opponents to solve.
Granville: If Granville has something going from them from the start, it's that they have defeated the Warriors twice already this season. And the Golden Horde have the best offense in Class C, and the 7th overall in Section 2.
Matthew Fuller is a big reason why. Just under 20 points per game, the team's leading scorer and 3 point shooter has helped fuel the Golden Horde all season. But Lake George is his Kyrptonite, being held to only 29 points in three meetings this year. The senior will need to figure out how to overcome the Lake George defense tonight.
Fuller isn't the only player responsible for Granville having the 7th best offense in Section 2. There's three other players who average above 10 points per game. Trace Bourne and Morgan Williams are threats behind the arch, and Matthew Parker has a deadly inside game. It will require a team-wide defense to slow the Golden Horde down, but it is something Lake George has shown they are capable of.
It should be a fun 4th match between these two teams, especially since there's more on the line here than there has been in their first three meetings. A trip to the Sectional Championship.

The defense will get a test against Stillwater that they haven't seen in the first three tournament games. Allowing an average of 48 points in the tournament, the Wildcats have not needed an offensive explosion to be successful.
Stillwater: Jared D'Aloia is going to be the player to watch for the team from the Wasaren League. The tournament's #2 seed comes to Glens Falls off a 65-50 win over Duanesburg where D'Aloi scored 22 points. But containing him will be tough, and focusing on him will lead to trouble if secondary scorer Zack Travis is left alone. He scored 16 against Duanesburg, and has compiled 8 games where the senior has scored 20 or more points.
The Warriors last loss, to Hoosic Valley, was a game where Stillwater entered the 4th quarter with the lead before the Indians outscored the Warriors 24-8. Even in that game, D'Aloia and Travis produced to their averages, which will make them tough threats to watch out on the court.
Stillwater cannot look at Maple Hill's record and seeding. Nor can they let the bigger atmosphere of playing at the Glens Falls Civic Center affect their style of play. Already this week we've seen the higher-seeded teams have soft starts, only to explode in the 3rd and 4th quarters. And if Stillwater wants to have a decent shot at winning the sectional title on Saturday, they may need to play a full four quarter game.
Lake George Warriors vs. Granville Golden Horde - 7:30PM
Lake George: The Lake George Warriors won the latest chapter against the new team in the Adirondack League before falling to Fort Ann in the league championship. A quick look at the Warriors show no player with 20 points per game, but there's a good reason for it.
They have three threats on the court who can score. Caleb Scrime has 9 games with 20 or more points this season, including a 20 point effort in the 1st round of the Class C playoffs against Cambridge. Against Schoharie, he scored 15 points, but it was a team effort as teammate and 3rd scorer on the team, Mason Flatley scored 16 points in the win. Flatley has three 20 point games this season, the latest being a 21 point game against Hadley-Luzurne last month. The two are joined by Alex Jones, who himself has three 20 point games this season as well.
Containing one top scorer can be easy. But three will be a difficult case for opponents to solve.
Granville: If Granville has something going from them from the start, it's that they have defeated the Warriors twice already this season. And the Golden Horde have the best offense in Class C, and the 7th overall in Section 2.
Matthew Fuller is a big reason why. Just under 20 points per game, the team's leading scorer and 3 point shooter has helped fuel the Golden Horde all season. But Lake George is his Kyrptonite, being held to only 29 points in three meetings this year. The senior will need to figure out how to overcome the Lake George defense tonight.
Fuller isn't the only player responsible for Granville having the 7th best offense in Section 2. There's three other players who average above 10 points per game. Trace Bourne and Morgan Williams are threats behind the arch, and Matthew Parker has a deadly inside game. It will require a team-wide defense to slow the Golden Horde down, but it is something Lake George has shown they are capable of.
It should be a fun 4th match between these two teams, especially since there's more on the line here than there has been in their first three meetings. A trip to the Sectional Championship.

Game 8: Lansingburgh 55, Mohonasen 50
It was a tough beginning for the Lansingburgh Knights, but with a team effort, the Knights came back to knock off the Mohonasen Warriors 55-50 in the Class A Semifinals at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The Knights were unable to buy a bucket early, scoring their lone two points off free throws in the first quarter. But the rim started to be kinder to the Knights. But the second half completed the Knights comeback, fueled by contributions by Justin Van Ness and Jahidi Wallace.
The top-seeded team in Class A finally obtained their first lead of the fourth quarter, resulting in a wild back-and-forth game with the Warriors until Justin Van Ness's two free throws with 1:39 left gave the Knights a four point lead. The Warriors were unable to make the shots they needed to down the road, and after several free throws by the Knights, Lansingburgh secured the victory to move onto Saturday's championship against Averill Park.
Justin Van Ness finished with 17 points, 8 of which came in the 4th quarter after returning from an apparent nosebleed that forced him out in the 3rd quarter. Jahidi Wallace added 14 points.

In an emotional game for the Averill Park, the Warriors mounted a massive run in the final quarter as they beat the Scotia Tartans 51-40 Wednesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center to advance to the Sectional Championship.
They will play Lansingburgh Saturday afternoon, 4PM, at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Game 4: Argyle 75, Northville 65
GLENS FALLS - Kobe Lufkin now stands on top of Section 2's all-time scoring leaderboard after his 30+ point effort leads the Argyle Scots in their 75-65 win over the Northville Falcons Tuesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The scoring mark, once held by Lake George's Joel Wincowski, was surpassed without fanfare in the fourth quarter, as Lufkin unloaded a deep three to add to the Scots lead. Lufkin finished with 34 points, 24 of which came in the 2nd half.
Northville's Reidell brothers, Nate and Danny, scored early and often, as the Falcons jumped out to a 12-2 early lead. Scoring 21 of Northville's 31 first-half points, the Reidell brothers had all four of Northville's 1st half three pointers. Michael Kalkbrenner contributed with 10 points for the Falcons.
Scoring became hard for the Falcons in the 2nd half, with all but four of their 3rd quarter points coming from the free throw line. Many of their field goals in the 4th quarter came after Argyle had built a solid lead.
An Adirondack League rematch is next for the Argyle Scots, as they will play the Fort Ann Cardinals in the Class D Championship on Friday night, 6PM at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Game 3: Glens Falls 77, Ichabod Crane 55
The Glens Falls Indians pulled away in the second half on the offensive strength of Joe Girard III, advancing to Friday's Sectional Championship game with their 77-55 win over the Ichabod Crane Riders on Monday night.
The Riders started off warm, getting 10 points from Peter Volkmann in the first quarter to build a 19-16 lead. They were able to build on their lead, getting the Indians into foul trouble early in the 2nd Quarter, to extend their lead to 8 halfway through the quarter.
The Indians went to the locker room down by three, getting a late 3-pointer from Joe Girard III to tighten the gap.
But the second half was all Glens Falls. Joe Girard III tied the game on the first possession of the third quarter, scoring from deep. A Greyson Brady dunk gave Glens Falls the lead, and Girard III added to the lead with another 3 to complete a 7-0 run.
Girard bucketed 17 points for the Indians in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Riders 11 points in that frame. the Indians would pull further away in the 4th quarter to punch their ticket in Friday's Class B Championship game against Mekeel Christian Academy.
Joe Girard III scored 28 of his 42 points in the 2nd half, getting help from Tony Green's 17 points. Peter Volkmann led the Riders with 21 points in the losing effort.

OESJ's path to the Civic Center has run through the Adirondack League, beating Salem and Whitehall, but will need to shut down the league's top Class D team if they're going to make it to the championship.
Fort Ann: The Cardinals's lone blemish on their record comes at the hand of the Granville Golden Horde, the #1 seed in Class C. The Adirondack League champions are backed by the offensive magic of Tyler Mattison and Jeremy Johnson, but those two cannot be the only guys contained. Garret Bailey, the team's #3 scorer, has a presence behind the arch, scoring 40% of his seasonal output from there. He tied Tyler Mattison for top scorer in the Cardinals semifinal win over Fort Edward, scoring 15 of his 22 points behind the arch.
PREDICTION: The Fort Ann defense will contain Devyn Jones. Hayes will still put up 25 points, but behind the work of Mattison, Bailey and Johnson, the Cardinals will advance to play in the championship game. Fort Ann 71, OESJ 58

He's 91% from the free throw line, and Nolan's 74% is still pretty deadly. But it was P.J. Parker who led the way in the Blackbirds overtime win over Broadalbin-Perth at Shenendehowa in the Quarterfinals, scoring 21 points. The Blackbirds can be very defensive, holding three opponents to under 40 points this season.
Mekeel Christian Academy: A perennial power, the Lions are a force to be reckoned with, scoring 90 or more points three times this season, and even topping over the century mark in a lopsided 107-55 win over Bishop Gibbons earlier this month. And while some of this can be at the hands of them playing in the Western Athletic Conference, you cannot overlook some of their non-conference games. A win over Class A Amsterdam, who won the Foothills Council South Division before losing the Glens Falls in the championship, and a win over Class AA's Green Tech, who narrowly pulled off the upset over top seeded Colonie on Saturday, shows the Lions have some talent. Four players over 10 points per game, led by over 20 points per game scorer Deonte Holder, will cause fits for even the better defenses in Section 2.
PREDICTION: Mekeel Christian Academy's offense may be too strong for the Blackbirds to handle. Given the caliber of opponents the Lions have faced outside of the WAC, the Lions have been tested well this season and have earned their 20-0 record. Mekeel Christian Academy 88, Voorheesville 46

Ichabod Crane: Peter Volkmann scored nearly half of the Riders 60 points, bucketing 29 points in the Riders 60-53 win over Hudson in the Quarterfinals. But he's not the primary focus. He's joined by Joe Werner, whose inside play has been causing teams issue all season long at over 15 points per game. Austin Valliere is a complimentary scorer, at over 10 points per game. The Riders already have one win over a Foothills Council opponent, beating Schuylerville in the first round last Tuesday.
Glens Falls: Tony Green has nearly 15 points per game, and for most cases, teams would be worried already. But you throw Section 2's leading scorer, and a serious threat for Joel Wincowski's all-time Section 2 mark in the name of Joe Girard III, and you have a recipe for trouble. Girard has nearly 800 points this season, almost 200 from the charity stripe, and over 300 coming from behind the arch. Inside, outside, all around, Joe Girard III can be trouble for opposing defenses.
PREDICTION: Good players are going to score no matter whose hand is in their face. That's the case with Joe Girard III. You just have to hope you have an offensive threat who can go toe-to-toe with him. Unfortunately, Ichabod Crane doesn't have such a player who can score no matter what the opposition brings. Ichabod Crane: Peter Volkmann scored nearly half of the Riders 60 points, bucketing 29 points in the Riders 60-53 win over Hudson in the Quarterfinals. But he's not the primary focus. He's joined by Joe Werner, whose inside play has been causing teams issue all season long at over 15 points per game. Austin Valliere is a complimentary scorer, at over 10 points per game. The Riders already have one win over a Foothills Council opponent, beating Schuylerville in the first round last Tuesday.
Glens Falls: Tony Green has nearly 15 points per game, and for most cases, teams would be worried already. But you throw Section 2's leading scorer, and a serious threat for Joel Wincowski's all-time Section 2 mark in the name of Joe Girard III, and you have a recipe for trouble. Girard has nearly 800 points this season, almost 200 from the charity stripe, and over 300 coming from behind the arch. Inside, outside, all around, Joe Girard III can be trouble for opposing defenses.
PREDICTION: Good players are going to score no matter whose hand is in their face. That's the case with Joe Girard III. You just have to hope you have an offensive threat who can go toe-to-toe with him. Unfortunately, Ichabod Crane doesn't have such a player who can score no matter what the opposition brings. Championship Week @ Glens Falls
We've been very quiet over the past four months since our last High School Football broadcast, but next week, we're going to be back covering high school sports here in the North Country.
All next week, we're going to be at the Glens Falls Civic Center as Championship Week comes loaded with 15 exciting High School Basketball games. Unfortunately, there will be no on-air broadcast, but we will be there covering all 15 games here on our newly rebranded blog as well as on our Twitter (@FOXSports979).
It's going to be a busy week. Might need a sanity break come 9:30PM Saturday night when the Class AA trophy is handed out. But we're committed to reestablishing ourselves as the North Country's Sports Leader.
